Help:Backups
From Evrose
Your customer web management interface makes the taking of backups easy.
Warning: It is your responsibility to ensure you take valid backups of your web site and configurations. We do not back up your web space in a way that means we can provide you with a backup file to restore from.
To Backup Your Entire Site
- On your control panel you will see a Backup Manager icon. Click on this.
- Under Tools you will see Back Up. Click on this.
- Under the section headed Backup Content select Domain Configuration and Content, then select whether you want email backed up or not.
- Then click on the Back Up button.
- Depending on how much content (and email) you have to back up, the system will then back itself up. On the main Backup Manager screen you will see a file appear. To the right of the file size you will see a small disk icon. Click on this to download the backup to your own hard disk.
- When you are sure that you have downloaded the backup, you may tick the box to the left of the filename and then click Remove. This ensures the backup is not taking up valuable disk space.
- You can upload backups you have saved to hard disk using the Upload Files to Server Repository icon. It will then appear in the list of valid backups.
- Clicking on the filename gives you the option to restore the content.
- You can also schedule regular backups using the Scheduled Backup Settings icon. Note that you should regularly download and purge automatically created backups to ensure you do not go over your disk space limits and accidentally suspend your account for overuse.
Backing Up Databases Only
Virtually all websites we design use a database to store content, page structures, usernames, passwords, etc. This does not include some key site configurations, appearance, images, and files - these should be backup up using the Backup Manager above. Backing up the database is recommended any time you make a change that you do not want to retype from scratch. You would use this if you need to restore your entire site from a backup and have made content changes since that backup was taken, or you do not want or need to restore your entire web space, only the database.
- Go to the Databases icon on your control panel.
- Click on the database to back up.
- Click on the WebAdmin icon. This will open up the database in a new browser window.
- In the right hand window, click on Export.
- In the Export options, highlight your database name. Then the type of export, usually SQL.
- In the SQL options ensure Structure and Data are ticked.
- You may need to scroll down, then ensure Save As File is ticked (by default it is unticked).
- Click on the Go button, and save to your hard disk with folder and filename of your choice.
- Restore into an empty database, if necessary, click on Import and select the filename as before. Untick Partial import.
